Services & Guidelines
All Members are requested to follow the guidelines of the Durgabai Deshmukh Library of the IIC, which offers the following services.
Reading Room:
• Maintain silence inside the library.
• Keep your mobile phone on silent mode.
• Research tables cannot be reserved; personal materials may not be left unattended.
• Only one newspaper/journal may be used at a time and must be returned to the rack after use.
Borrowing Facility:
• Members can borrow 4 books at a time for 15 days.
Inter-Library Loan (ILL):
• ILL services are available through DELNET for the members.
Internet & Wi-Fi Access:
• Free Internet access is available to Members.
• Personal laptops are permitted; Wi-Fi can be availed within the Library.
Access to E-Resources:
• Select periodicals received in print are also accessible online through Library systems.
• The Library subscribes to JSTOR, Granth Sanjeevani, Magzter and Critical Collective for archived journals across arts, sciences, language, literature, music and social sciences.
Bibliographic Services:
• Bibliographies service available based on available database.
• Soft copies are free; printed copies are charged at ₹2/- per page.
• Photocopying & scanning available (on payment basis)
Access to CDs / DVDs:
• CDs and DVDs may be used quietly within the Library or borrowed for a fortnight.
Assistive Technologies & Kindle:
Available assistive tools include:
• Optelec ClearView+ video magnifier (2x–50x)
• SuperNova Access Suite (magnification, speech, Braille)
• Dragon Speech Recognition
• Plustek Optibook 3600 Scanner
• Kindle e-book reader for digital reading
Library Cubicles:
• Six cubicles are available for quiet study by Member-Scholars:
• Quarterly rent: ₹3450/- + GST
• Maximum duration: 3 months
Library Lockers:
Six lockers are available for regular research users:
• Monthly rent: ₹200/- + 18% GST
• Extendable based on availability
• Centre not responsible for loss/theft
Loss or Damage:
1. The Member shall not remove, mark, deface or disfigure in any way, any volume, document or other objects belonging to the Library or in its custody, and shall not bring into the Library any inflammable material.
2. Members shall have to make good any loss or damage to Library property.
3. The loss of a book taken on loan must be reported to the Chief Librarian immediately and positively within three months of its borrowing. In such an event, the Member concerned may either replace the book so lost or pay the current price of the book. If the loss of the book is reported after three months, the Member concerned will be charged double the cost of the book. In the case of loss of an out-of-print book, the price may be fixed by the Director in consultation with the Chief Librarian. The Member is also liable to pay the overdue charges in addition to the cost of the book.
