Shri Krishen Khanna, artist will speak on Many Facets of a Painter

 

Krishen Khanna was born in 1925 in Lyallpur, or Faisalabad, in Punjab, now in Pakistan. He studied at the Imperial Service College, England, from 1938-42 as a Rudyard Kipling scholar. Returning to Lahore for a course in English literature at Government College, he simultaneously took evening classes at the Mayo School of Art. He moved with his family to Shimla following Partition and later shifted to Bombay and began a career in banking. His works were first featured in a group exhibition in 1949 and he held his first solo exhibition in 1955.

In 1961 he became a full-time artist. With a Rockfeller Fellowship, he travelled to Japan in 1962 and since then, he has widely exhibited in India and abroad and is recognised as one of India’s leading artists. He was awarded the Padma Shri in 1990. He lives and works in New Delhi.
