Data Matters: Why, How Often, and What Kind?

The panel will discuss issues related to collection, dissemination and governance of large-scale nationally representative socio-economic data. Why do we need regular, transparent data on a variety of topics to guide policy? What are the pitfalls that data collectors should watch out for? How should we balance the process of strengthening and expanding the data infrastructure with that of protecting individual privacy? How does technology aid or impede these twin concerns?
