CELEBRATING WOMEN'S LEADERSHIP

CELEBRATING WOMEN'S LEADERSHIP
Unorganized
The term "˜unorganized', much used in relation to spaces where women work, can distort understanding and policy response in developing countries. "˜Unorganized' workers are in fact highly organized, and are exploited by other organizations through buy-back arrangements or piece-rate payment. The term is also used for craftspeople, who may not form a collective, yet together weave an unspoken language through their skills.

The seminar will include an overview of the pathbreaking Arjun Sengupta Report, make interconnections between economic and cultural domains through a session on crafts, and explore how formulaic government schemes like Self-Help Groups are transformed by women into membership-based organizations giving them voice across party, class and caste.
